From the Top of the Mast No. 2

By | All, Team News | No Comments

AHOY EVERYONE! The Drexel Sailing Team has been having a great fall season. We have 5 new additions to the team so far – Rob, Melanie, Kuba, and Alex – thank you for your interest; we look forward to working with you! We have attended quite a few regattas since the last issue of the newsletter. Unfortunately our season is quickly coming to a close with only 2 regattas left to attend! We will be at Hampton College for the Henry Luce on 10/29 – 10/30 and at Fordham and Columbia for the Club Championships on 11/5 – 11/6 which we qualified for at the Central Qualifier #2. In this issue, you can find regatta reports written by our very own Drexel sailors of each regatta we have attended so far.

The full issue can be viewed here: From the Top of the Mast No. 2

WELCOME! – to the first issue of “From The Top of the Mast,” the bi-weekly Drexel Sailing Team newsletter!  This newsletter will be your source for anything Drexel Sailing – whether it is a regatta report from a recent regatta or what the team is up to around campus, you’ll be able to find it here!  I would like to thank all of our wonderful officers and other volunteers for helping me put this newsletter together.  It’s something I’ve been talking about for a while and I’m really happy that it’s finally coming to fruition!  There wouldn’t be anything to read if it wasn’t for all their hard work; so again, thank you! We wouldn’t be where we are today if it wasn’t for the dedication of past and present team members. I hope this newsletter is a little something we can give back to you in return.  Thank you everyone –friends, family, team, and alumni – for everything you do for Drexel Sailing; your devotion is what keeps are team moving forward.  Happy reading!

It is our pleasure to announce that the Drexel Sailing Team has hired Doug Brown as head coach. A few of Doug’s accomplishments: He is a US Sailing Level II sailing coach working toward his Level III. Recently he was head coach of the Monmouth Sailing Team (2007-2009) building the program into a competitive club team.  He has a rich and diverse sailing background with national campaigns in several boats including Jet-14, Force 5, Sunfish, and Stars to name a few and an Olympic campaign in the Finn class.  Doug continues as Director of Sailing at Pocono Lake Preserves, a position which he has held since 2005. In addition to his sailing background, Doug has a very strong coaching background in hockey.  He’s been an active coach for 20 years at nearly every level, including pee-wee, college, and adult teams.  Currently, Doug runs his own power skating program . Over the next couple weeks, the team officers and Rona will be working closely with Doug to transition into the head coach position.  We look forward to a successful Fall 2010 season and many future seasons with Doug. The officers thank those who helped in the selection process for your gracious support of the Drexel Sailing Team.  For any questions, please contact the President, Jennifer Mislinski, at  Doug Brown can be reached at Sincerely, The Drexel Sailing Team Officers
